Vol. 11 - Chapter 569 - Meanwhile, the scheme of alliance class continues…
Striking their victory against Karua, and sealing her, the three of Class-12 and Nagi made their way down from the central mountain. They'd used Wardol's makeshift stairs to climb up, and similarly used them again to go down.
Once down, they made their way toward their *fortress* in the northwest direction. Sandwiched between northern mountain and central mountain, the base, dubbed '2nd Fortress,' was enclosed in layers of barricade, acting like walls, and completely clogging the route in south and east.
Meanwhile, the north side of the same square that the base was in had a multitude of items and other objects placed in a row to use against intruders at a moment's notice.
It was as if they'd been preparing to wage a war against someone else. Overall, the base moulded into fortress shape had a man-made touch to it. The touch-up had been done by Wardol. Much like how Wardol had made anti-Karua prison, the members used the materials others had brought within the permissible limit of their Item Bag to reinforce the respective bases. Each and every base now sported a high durability.
The whole setup was the plan from Rina, and a major reason why sought the alliance with other classes. This amount of «Defense» category items would've been impossible to build without their help otherwise.
In fact, even as the clock ticks in, they're carrying out enhancement and reinforcement of their fortresses non-stop.
"Wake up, guys! Leader's back!"
"Oh, finally?! Yay, finally my time to shine!"
"How did it go!?"
The arrival of Akemi and the gang was promptly noticed, and soon two other «Chief Dwarf» gathered around them.
If anything---and in case it was bugging others too---there were as many as 6 students with «Chief Dwarf» jobs. It's a surprising number for one single class, and there's always a fight among them for who the best Chief is.
This situation arose because, during the first class reshuffle, everyone was at LV0. Their abilities were all roughly the same, and their job classes were identical, so there was no way to distinguish them in class. As a result, the group of similar jobs ended up in the same class together.
On another note, this peculiarity also allowed them to pull a move as elaborate as this, despite the focus on 'combat department.' And as of now, the current leading «Chief Dwarf» was Wardol.
"Rejoice, everyone! For we've aced it!"
"Hurraay!!"
Their contribution shouldn't have been more than lifting a finger, yet Akemi made sure to come out as smug as if she had achieved a stellar victory. Cheers erupted from all over the spots when others heard it.
They'd been eagerly awaiting for the result in trepidation. This was the first step in their plan, nonetheless it was the most crucial among all. Their chances of victory were all pinned on this strategy. Plus, it was the fact that they'd been acting against someone with an advanced job, a once of a kind among them.
"Hell yeaaahhh! Finally our leader earned her share!"
"Cheers---no, it's the full festival time!"
"Ohohoho!"
A celebratory atmosphere akin to a festival occupied them for a while. Their excitement was at the top, since they'd taken down the one with the pinnacle of jobs, and their class leader should be the first one to thaw that summit. Though of course, this was largely possible due to Rina’s intellect.
The members of class-12 were all puffed up with pride, looking at Akemi as if she were a hero.
Just as they were about to dive into the ruckus of the celebration, a group of people arrived.
"Welcome back, everyone. I guess, I didn't need to ask about the result, eh?"
"Rina onee-sama!"
Sporting lavender-colored hair, part of which was styled in vertical curls, and dressed in what appeared to be military-like attire, the newcomer, a beauty in making, was the leader of Class-51---Ekatrina. She was the brain and heart of this strategy, and the core of everything around the alliance.
Behind her were two bodyguards, a girl holding a large shield in each hand, and a boy clad in full silver armor with a large shield. However, Akemi's gaze only captured Rina. Correction, Akemi only had eyes for Rina.
Rina congratulated Akemi and her team with a soft smile.
"Splendid work, everyone. Now we can say we have made huge strides in our plan."
"Ehehe~."
"Haha."
Kajmal and Wardol courteously bowed their head when Rina congratulated them.
It appeared they'd taken Rina as their Supreme Commander for all intent and purpose. After all, it was a plan concocted by Rina only. And they managed to ace it all because Rina had completely seen through Karua, and what action she might take. In the battle of intellect, Karua perhaps never stood a chance.
"It's just as you'd said, Rina onee-sama! Advanced jobs are not invincible! You're amazing!"
"Fufu, well, thank you."
Meanwhile, in contrast to her entourage, Akemi didn't shy away from chirping the praises happily. And it appeared Rina also had ignored the two---and probably that was the right choice.
"I'm shocked beyond limit how little effort it takes to trap advanced job members. Hehe, but that's a plan from Rina onee-sama, so it couldn't have failed as well!"
"Atleast, something has gone right. Meanwhile the scouts we had sent in the south are all wiped out."
The sudden news shocked Akemi and the team.
Rina had presumed this finale would be a long-lasting one, so they had planned two of their cards to play from the get-go: fortification of their base, and completion of the map for «Dragon's Miniature Garde» by dispatching scouts.
As of now, they'd fortified the bases of their allied class---Class-5, Class-12, and Class-51—which would prevent the marches of any opponent class for the duration.
Overall, their first pillar of strategy went as expected, however they'd seen a stop in the second strategy. The scouts they'd dispatched in the south were eliminated by Zephyr. The completion rate of «Dragon's Miniature Garden» as of now wasn't even half, only covering half of the north.
A major of their obstacles to cover the map had come from Zephyr. Perhaps, Zephyr had seen through their plan, such was the assumption of Rina. Nevertheless, it was a great start for the prologue of the finale.
"I may be taking advantage of my knowledge against her, but there's just no way we could have stopped Karua-san from escaping in a frontal clash. And defeating her isn't easy. "
As the main linkage of information for the Class-1, Karua's importance was lost to no one. Any movement they make would be relayed to Zephyr, and Zephyr would surely dispatch members to deal with them. An ambush against them would be literally inviting a wolf to home scenario.
Ultimately, they either had to defeat her, or restrain her movement somehow. And against an opponent who clearly outstripped them in combat---at least, there was no second match to her in agility---while also being unmatched in information gathering. If that was not all, she had the buff form advanced job as well.
However their glimmer of victory lies in that very potential of Karua's abilities.
"Karua-san's overwhelming agility means she can’t act by herself anytime, which was precisely a gap for us to exploit."
Rina prompted for that weakness.
It was easier for Karua to act alone by virtue of her agility. Even in the perchance scenario she was caught in siege, there was no doubt her agility could pull her out of the trouble. It wouldn't have been the same if she was acting alongside someone else.
However, this brought a gap between her defense. As long as measures were tight, even a fortress wasn't truly invincible, and Rina exploited the gap by utilising the flower. And it was a success as the situation goes.
"Rina onee-sama, do you think we can win now!?"
"No, we can't call this more than a baby step in our plan. Of course, we had hampered them Class-1 greatly, however we're going against Zephyr-san. You would never know what kind of tactic he brings up. We need to step into the second phase of our plan now while they're still unaware about Karua-san."
Rina reminded everyone. Now that they'd created the opportunity, it was time to strike the hammer while it's still hot.
The clock right now was ticking a few moments short before reaching the 20th minute mark. This was a crucial moment of their plan, and also why they'd not eliminated Karua yet. If they'd done that, Zephyr would notice the member count at the moment of recap, and that would ring alarm for him. But in otherwise case, he probably would never guess about the situation. He knew Karua’s strength very well, and that it would take more than strength to bring her down.
"---I presume, our moment to act has arrived, is it, Ekatrina-dono?"
The guard behind Rika---the boy in full body silver armor---inquired.
Within a heartbeat the boy's voice echoed, the celebratory ruckus vanished as if put in a paused state. Everyone's voice died down in a fear that it would interrupt the boy's words. All but alluding to the boy's status.
Rina turned on her heel and gave that boy a node.
"Indeed, the stage is now out for you Class-5 to take. We can't have Class-1 play their part, or it would be doom for us. I am leaving the heavy lifting part on your shoulder, Lamda-san."
"Understood!"
The boy, or Lamda of Class-5, and also its leader, performed a salute, bringing his right hand to the brooch—the brooch was molded into shield shape, and a picture of drawn onto it, proof of his «Knight» category---attached on the right chest.
Affiliated to the «King Absolute», acquiring the «Advanced Job Ascension Ticket» from the action, and racing to job change within a week, he was the sword and trump card of four classes alliance.
His advanced job was «Caliburn Paladin», a high-mid ranking job.
It was but a matter of time before the curtain rises on the clash of advanced jobs.
T/N - Heya, everyone, how did your new year go? Personally, it was like everyday except the update of a game made the day. Any guesses? And I guess you guessed the reason behind the delay this week. I can’t wait to eat my words I said a while ago.But on the brighter side, the goal performed quite well at least. Though it didn’t hit the set milestone, not that it was unexpected, we would be updating two extra chapters next week. And it seems like Hannah’s side story get the fair number of votes so there we go~.
On the side note—not that it’s important, so you can skip it—my original idea was to check out the light novel volume of series and see if there is any summer side stories, and *hopefully* the illustration of the remaining girl’s swimsuit but I couldn't find the time and means to get it. Welp, here goes my plan to put down summer stories in the winter season—the oh-so classic staple of anime regardless of the time. Let’s see this month then~.
What do you think?
